Plot me a mini road trip from near Portsmouth!
Discussion
I think in the near future I fancy a day of driving for no other reason other than for a drive. I live near Portsmouth Fareham and would fancy some nice roads up to around 200 miles or so. Ideally some nice scenery, mainly A roads and some B roads providing they aren't too narrow to enjoy, some nice photo opportunities......
GO!
GO!

Head west along the M27. jump off and head up through the new forest. very scenic and then work your way back across wilts.
I'm trying to put a good days drive together as well(based around salisbury).
Funny I'd basically planned exactly this, except reverse head out towards Winchester/Stockbridge/Salisbury sort of way and then cut down to the Forest and finish down the M27 for the end. Will probably do this early May as next month very busy!I'm trying to put a good days drive together as well(based around salisbury).

I find that the A272 is an interesting road.
You could head north on the A32 to West Meon Hut, turn right onto the A272.
Then follow it past Petersfield, Midhurst, Petworth, Cowfold, Haywards Heath, Maresfield and Buxted.as far as Cross in Hand.
Then turn south onto the A267.
Bear right just before you get to Heathfield, to keep on the A267 towards Horam.
Keep going south on the A267 until it joins the A22 near Hailsham.
Enjoy the A22 stretch of dual carriageway down to Polegate and join the A2270 to Eastbourne.
Then head west along the A259, taking a slight detour to enjoy Beachy Head Road past Birling Gap and into East Dean.
Re-join the A259 westwards.
You can then, depending on the time available, choose when to go north to join the A27 to get back to Hampshire ( or you could just stay on the A259 and enjoy the traffic).

Thanks for this!! I've just plotted this on Google Maps and it's around 190 miles, so this could be a good trip You could head north on the A32 to West Meon Hut, turn right onto the A272.

If you decide to take this route, I do hope that you enjoy it.I used to enjoy this trip in my Mercedes C240, but I was traveling from Hastings so I would be going the other way around.
The way that you would be travelling , you could stop for coffee at Midhurst and Uckfield.
Lunch could be had in Eastbourne, but you might prefer The Tiger Inn at East Dean.
Leaving the A259 to re-join the A27 is a toss-up between going through Alfriston, or from Newhaven to up Lewes.
Bosham can be included in the drive home by dropping off the A27 at the Fishbourne roundabout.
If anybody is thinking of this route - It seems that, due to the hotel fire in the middle of March this year, the main road through Midhurst is closed for a while.
As you approach Midhurst - You would need to take the A286 south towards Chichester, and then find your way across to the A285 to go north to Petworth.
Then you can re-join the A272 and continue your journey eastward.

It does look like an odd place but there was plenty of clear road behind me so no worries on that front. Just around the South Downs west of the A3, Meon Valley area, only around 80 miles I think but it was enjoyable. You're not wrong- It was a great day for a drive. - I did about 240 miles..
