No Point in Replacing My Windscreen Again
Discussion
My van is coming up for four years old and it's on its third windscreen after 58k miles.
On my way to replace a windscreen before Christmas, a stone, whack! A little crack started to travel so I got the repair kit out and 'arrested' its development. Tidy repair and job jobbed. On my way back down the M1, whack! Another stone no more than 30mm away from my lovely repair. Time for a new windscreen then...
Ordered the new 'screen in, and replaced it. Two weeks later... Whack! Only this time it cracked before I could get in an attempt to repair it. It doesn't enter the wiper sweep zone and is on the near-side; it can stay like that until weather improves, but not the greatest endorsement for my business driving around with a cracked windscreen.
The roads are a nightmare. Potholes everywhere.
Cool story, bro etc.

The upright screens in some cars (MINIs) and vans make them more prone to damage. And some vans have vast acres of windscreen.
My best tactic in any car is to hang back. Country lanes with gravel on the sides, HGV drivers swerving onto the hard shoulder as they pick up their mobile , Yorkie bar or put the latest porno DVD into their laptop - hang back. That way any stone being flung up is likely to have a lesser effect.

Definitely more crap. I came back from Milton Leynes around Wellingborough. On the A509 I decided to pass a dawdler on the climbing lane stretch only to find the passing lane full of loose stones. I thought better of passing, abandoned the manoeuvre and pulled back in and held back. The roads in Northants are getting into a worse than poor state of managed decline.
