European Road Trip
Discussion
I am looking for suggestions for a road trip/holiday for June/July.
Usually travel at the end of June for two weeks from Hull port..
Last year we followed the Rhine down to Rudesheim, then the romantic road to Fussen, across to Lucerne and the Andermatt loop, returning via Colmar, Baden Baden (B500), Albert in France, Bruge and finally Rotterdam.
Trip before that, Hull - Zeebrugge, WW1 Ypres, then followed the Moselle to Trier before returning via Luxembourg, Reims, Lille to Calais.
Mainly camping,(one/two possibly three nights at a time ) with the odd night in a hotel for a hot bath ! travelling in a MK3 Escort. 250 miles a day maximum really and then not too often. Prefer to do around 3 hours driving a day.
Could possibly travel out from Poole but had a nightmare trip back from Calais with food poisoning, so sooner have a shorter return leg for the journey home.
Any suggested routes, approx 1500 miles on foreign soil, where I won't need a crit air sticker ? Thinking possibly Bordeaux side of France ?
Thanks

I’ve gotten the ferry from Newcastle to Amsterdam numerous times. Can work out cheaper than Hull depending when you book.
What we done was Glasgow to Newcastle to get 5pm ferry.
Land 7am GMT Amsterdam, either spend a night in Amsterdam or somewhere in Netherlands or just drive direct to Cologne for a night. Frankfurt for a pit stop second breakfast, stop at Stuttgart and visit the Porsche museum, (worth while)
Then make our way to either Innsbruck or Salzburg, and the way back drive to Verona, Milan for a couple of days, the head to Turin to catch up with some colleagues then make our way back to Amsterdam.
Can recommend Cannibale Royale, Steak restaurants in Amsterdam.
Food was a bit disappointing in Cologne, but was good to see the cathedral and if your a WW2 buff, a few sights to see but seemed a bit rough at night.
Porsche Museum it’s excellent, lots of metal on display and they have decent restaurant and cafe.
Also can recommend if you’re going to the Nurburgring, a nice town near by “Cochem” which is about 35 mins. Seems like it’s pretty much downhill the whole way with a few good stretches of Autobhan. Lots of tourists things to do if you bring the wife.
Turin is amazing, visit the old Fiat buildings. Great food and coffee scene and if your into cycling can rent bikes and do guided tours of the city.
