I’ve booked tickets for Goodwood FoS and we’ll be staying in Bognor Regis. Looking for route suggestions from Ripon in a Caterham 7. I’ll have the whole day to drive down and would like some interesting roads, avoiding motorways and large busy towns where possible, although don’t mind the odd stretch of motorway to join up other roads.

The A29 from just south of Crawley that takes you down towards Bognor Regis is quite a pleasant route. You’ll need most of the day for getting down to Bognor Regis from Ripon on the A1/M25 without any interesting deviations.

Google Maps and tell it you are a cyclist. Looks good to me, but will take
at very least all day.

300 miles at an average 50 mph is six hours of driving, without stops.

Even if you sit on the motorway, it's at least five hours and you've got
the Great British Motorist to contend with.

OP, as you have all day then this might be of interest.
A mix of d/c and s/c A roads, B roads, plus one or two unclassified. Motorways are avoided unless there is no realistic alternative.
It divides quite conveniently into morning and afternoon legs with a motorway services in between.
If you want something a bit more upmarket than a drive-through, this inn is a short distance away.

The first 3 routes get you south reasonably quickly, I would alter the last route (only adds 6 or 7 mins) to avoid motorways and go through Pilshill, Henley and Sandhurst - almost a straight line. I drove from Teesside to the FoS using most of this route. Set off nice and early 8ish and you'll be at your destination around teatime.

The issue I have with Henley is that it's the only crossing point of the Thames between Marlow and Sonning, so it acts like a funnel. Every time I've been there it has been full of traffic trying to squeeze through a restricted orifice. Wending through the centre of Wokingham doesn't hold much appeal either. I prefer to keep to d/cs and motorways in that part of Berkshire. YMMV. smile
