I recently started using the M20 in Kent through the 15 miles 50 mph limit. All average speed camera controlled. I am one of the few who do the 50 mph. I'm overtaken every day by dozens of cars and vans most UK registered. Many at quite high speeds. Travelling at a reduced speed in full size lanes at 11pm to "protect the workforce" is ridiculous. Most of the time during the day there is no workforce let alone at night time. Are these cameras working 24/7 because the temptation to do 70 is almost overpowering at night on a clear road few cars NO workforce. Does anyone on here ignore these Draconian restrictions and never had a ticket or do I sit there at 50 with my finger up my bum and roll over to the unnecessary night time limit?

Yes, before someone suggests it, I can try and find out the hard way

When I visit the UK I always use GPS speed + 10% on the M20, M25, M40, M42 & M6 and that's what quite a few other drivers will be doing I guess.

As for the length of those restrictions on the M20, it's a joke.

Agree with Les. I live in Maidstone and it's a PITA. I just travel at an indicated 55mph. All the people doing 48/49/50 are in reality doing 44/45/46, add on some dithering, talking, scenery watching, mobile use and they are soon down to low 40's.

It's worth mentioning that there is a grey area above a speed limit where
you are technically speeding, but the police won't prosecute.
I think it's 10% + 2, so 57 real (about 62 indicated).

Let's not forget averages aren't maximums. Ok you might have a few
seconds at 65 mph, but that won't change your long term average by much.

I have done many miles at 60 mph indicated and I am still waiting for my
ticket.

The atrocious lane discipline and woeful observation of the average Brit motorist
are both subjects not worth mentioning here.

Time is money. What price safety ?

I've often wondered about this, where people pass me while I'm doing an indicated 56mph

I simply assumed they were driving on cloned plates and DGAF
