Hi all, I often see people coming off the motorway way and going through the chevrons (leaving it late). I went into these this morning coming of the M25 onto the M1, basically was very busy and was struggling to get over as no one was letting me in so ended up in a few metres of this. Does anyone know of there are cameras that pick this up and result in a fine?

‘No one was letting me in’ reads as I skipped the mile of queuing traffic and used the hatchings to get in at the front.
There’s no reason anyone should be leaving it so late to take an exit that they need to cross these hatchings. There’s signs literally a mile before the every junction.

I made a totally innocent mistake (first time ever to add) as I had been driving a long time so was heading to the first services on m1 before the final leg home. Was hoping for some helpful advice rather than judgement.

Traffic was busy but not queuing. As I mentioned was getting weary and went to the first m1 services so was not as shape as normal hence not getting in early.

Yes, there are. First offence is 6 points and/or £1000 fine. Second offence three months' disqualification. Third offence and your car is seized and crushed.

Thanks Wafu. I was reading and got the impression it is only when police cars pick this up. Are there fixed cameras too. I am kicking myself as I was tired and left my move across with only 200 metres or so to go.

I should have also said (and this is no excuse) I had started pulling over before the chevrons but I panicked as there wee some fast cars so never quite made it over in the permissible bit as I pulled out again for fear of being rear ended.

In hindsight I should have stayed out and gone to the next junction. But now worried I will get an NIP. I don’t have any points on my license so I guess just a case of waiting to see if I get a letter in the post.

It will be a tough lessen but we’ll and truly learnt.

Theres not going to be a camera at every slip road.

If you happen to be seen by a police car you would probably get pulled.

It is a solid white line for a reason.
I think the worst you have done is rattled your teeth on the chevrons and pulled a whole pile of dusty crap onto the carriage way.

I would not be expecting a NIP in the post.

Hi Sherman, rattled myself too! It has been a long drive back from France and was in need of a break. One of those situations where I was not on the ball, and then panicked and flustered.
