Me again!

I've read that St Moritz is very expensive and should be avoided to stop over. Possibly harsh? Just wondering if any of you on here have found any alternatives nearby to stay for the night? This is our planned route starting from Sion to St Moritz

Hotel Restaurant Pizzeria Sonne in St Moritz Bad.

Great pizza & restaurant, hotel acceptable.

Why not stop in silvaplana? Also a nice little village. Why is St Moritz the end point? I would do splugen to Chiavenna then depending on end goal find a place, maybe on lake como.

Thanks, will check it out.

This is day 2 for us, day 1 we are heading from Lausanne south through Great St Bernard pass and then looping back round through Chamonix to Sion

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/dir/Lausanne,+Switze...

Day 3 we will do St Moritz to Andermatt loop

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/dir/St.+Moritz,+Swit...

Any recommendations for good places to stay as a base in Andermatt area also appreciated!

We stayed at Hotel Seerausch in Beckenreid on Lake Lucerne which isn't too far from the Loop. Great view across the lake.
Make sure you include the Nufenen Pass when you do the loop.

I've read that the Nufenen Pass is probably the quietest and most rewarding of all the Andermatt loop. Any suggestions of places to stay the night before to allow an early start at Nufenen?

We've stayed at the Hotel Gotthard Sud which is just south of the Gotthard Passes (good excuse to do these too, but avoid the tunnel), which in turn is just south of Andermatt.
The Nufenen is lovely, and the least used. I prefer it east to west.

Thanks for the recommendation mr pg. Will check it out.

I've read somewhere before that Nufenen is best travelled east to west. We will likely stay the night around Andermatt, get on the road for 6:30am and travel south down Gotthard pass to Airolo. Then west along Nufenen to Ulrichen, then North to Gletsch and over to Realp and back to Andermatt.

Not sure how long that will take in one run but if weather is good and roads not too busy I would be tempted to do it in reverse anti clockwise back round to Andermatt, lunch and then Grimsel pass to Breinz.

I've heard the road from Interlaken to Grindelwald is stunning too, have done this route?

No, that's one road in the area we've not done yet.

We recently stayed at Hotel Waldhaus am See in St Moritz, very nice hotel, quirky, great bar. Food okay but would probably go into town myself. would stay again
