This year a few of my fellow petrol heads are heading over the Channel to Le Mans Classic and planning to add on another week or so exploring the Alps. Sharing a route I saw on here a few years ago which looks like a good place to start. Any other suggestions on better routes gratefully received.

I'm sure this question has been asked on here 1000s of times so apologies for going over old territory. I'm really looking for accommodation recommendations en route. Needing places to stay that are moderately priced and have off road parking ideally.

Le Mans to Lausanne looks to be around 8 hrs with stops so we can do that in one day. There after we will probably plan each day to have no more than 4 or 5 hours at the wheel so that we can stop regularly and take in the scenery.

Thanks in advance, any help hugely appreciated

Hi s70, pretty sure it was from PH. I remember seeing it at the time and thinking it looked like a great route. I would have credited you if I'd remembered the original poster

I'd suggest including the Susten and Nufenen passes if going to Andermatt are, and find a way round using the Chamonix tunnel. The Petite St Bernard is close by.

it was a great time except for the damaged tyre and having to wait nearly 24hrs for a replacement - BMW said i would have to wait 3 days for a new tyre - the guy that BMW sent to recover said we can get it you for tomorrow.

avoid Grimsel and Klausen on a weekends

Can highly recommend this hotel in (near) Interlaken...

It has private parking spaces, friendly staff and the quality of the rooms are great.

I did read recently somewhere about the Susten and Nufenen passes, possibly on a thread here. Will definitely try to weave then into our route. Thanks for the suggestion mr pg.

Thanks too for both Interlaken accommodation recommendations, will check them out.

I'm told places like Chamonix are generally very expensive. We are trying to do this on a reasonable budget, is it generally better to book accomm a bit out of town to save money or is that more hassle than it's worth re dinner/drinks for the evenings, etc

Any other accomm suggestions hugely appreciated PHers

Susten, Furka and Nufenen for sure.
Grimsel looks great in the photos but is a boring drive even the first time.
Chamonix is expensive and no good roads nearby. better to leave Aosta towards BSM, over the pass and then to Megeve (even more expensive). Nice road up to Flaine btw.

Thanks CABC, any ideas of a good town/village to stay in the night before to drive these passes early morning?
