Driving to Bulgaria

Has anybody done this from the UK? What routes did you take? Any advice greatly received.
It looks like 1500 miles, it is optimistic thinking I could do it in 2 days?
How many hours a day do you reckon you can you drive? What average speed can you and your car maintain during those hours? 1,500 miles in two days assuming 10 hours a day at the wheel is an average of 75mph .It looks like 1500 miles, it is optimistic thinking I could do it in 2 days?
I have gone London to Salzburg in one stint, so the first part is doable in a day. Not sure bout the Eastern European leg as I have never driven that - looks like it could be doable
I think 2 days is manageable if you don’t go at a time of holiday traffic and are a bit lucky in terms of when you pass by large cities (end of work day traffic etc).
Don’t forget to buy the various Vignettes to avoid painful fines

You're comparing French Autoroute to whatever motorway they have in Serbia. Ok.
I've been on the motorway from Belgrade to Novi Sad.. It was two lanes each way only, but virtually deserted apart from a few trucks. Eastern european roads are typically fine, and less busy than in the UK.Master Bean said:

Of course average speeds won't be quite as high as French toll roads but the roads in the Balkans are comparable to British A-roads just without the traffic. It can be done in 2 days / 1 overnight, but you'll be exhausted. Stretch it to 3 days / 2 nights and it'll be more relaxed and enjoyable.
Granted its not Bulgaria but we've done London - Hvar/Brac in the car a few times and its comfortably done in 2 days, including taking time for detours - be it a few laps at the Nurburgring or a stop-off at the Neuschwanstein castle. Driving days have typically been <8 hours (unless hitting heavy traffic).
I appreciate that Bulgaria is a little further but I'd be looking to do it over 2 days, crank it out and then enjoy the time spent there more. We generally cruise at 80mph France, 100mph in Germany (where allowed) and 90mph in Croatia - not had many issues

It will take about the same amount of time again to get from Croatia to Bulgaria as it does from Calais to Croatia.
3.5-4 hours extra (assuming Sofia) says google maps - not horrendous but not ideal either, really depends whether the OP is willing to just crack on and how fast they driveGassing Station | Roads | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
