A1 Grantham roadworks.
Discussion
Hi,
Just wondering does anyone drive through that bit of A1 quiet a lot. I could of sworn I have been flashed today by some sort of a camera there however the problem is I’m convinced the speed limit there is 50mph all the way through the roadworks, and I was going 50mph on the cruise control.
The map below shows you the exact location of where abouts I’m talking about.
I came of the A52, and had to drive down all the way to Peterborough down the A1, I believe the roadworks are around Little Ponton and Great Ponton area.
Does it go down to 40mph there by any chance and I could have possibly missed it or does it stay at constant 50mph?
Both ways north and south please.

It's 50 & there were average speed cameras. (Before you get to the permanent average speed cameras at Great Ponton).
I've been there 3 times a week & just last time I didn't notice the cameras. (So maybe they've been taken down? Or maybe I just didn't clock them) But anyhoo, deffo 50. Until summer 2021 apparently!

Yeah your right it did say something about average speed, but I haven’t seen any of them average speed cameras either.
Perhaps your right and they have been taken down.
Not sure where the “flash” came from, maybe it’s just some strong lights on the side of the road that they use at night or whatever.
Either way I just wanted to make sure it’s 50mph all the way through as this is the speed I was doing on my cruise control all the way up to the NSL again, and it seems like that’s the case so I shouldn’t be expecting anything through the post any time soon. Haha.
On another note when are the M1 roadworks expected to be finished fully?

M1 Roadworks - Spring 2023 four years after they started.
Work to build the first 53 mile section of the M1 from scratch began in April 1958 and finished in December 1959 - 20 months.
So it took less than half the time to build more than double the length than its taking to reinforce the hard shoulder, add a few lay-bys, erect some signage, resurface some bits and apply some paint. Are they doing it with spoons, buckets, spatulas and artist brushes?
Proper physical widening on other sections with shoulders and bridges took less time as well.
I hope the contractors are not being paid for the job and not by the hour.
The mind boggles.
You’ll have guessed right that I commute this stretch and feel a bit frustrated at the eternity it is taking to work on this stretch.
