New York to California in under three hours?
Discussion
Roughly this time last year some enterprising Americans took advantage of the lock down lack of traffic and defunded Police being busy elsewhere to set a new Cannonball Run record of twenty-five hours and thirty-nine minutes in a modified AMG Mercedes with a long range fuel tank. As shows, motor sport, launches, events and track days were canceled due to the Covid situation the automotive press didn't have much or anything else to cover so this "story" was published but any and all of the copy and paste press multiple times.
Somewhat frustrated about seeing yet another Cannonball Run Record social media posts in the comment section I suggested that it would be possible to drive from New York to California in under three hours without breaking any laws.
After a few confused people asked if I had an SR-71 I mentioned that I was based in the UK where New York is a village in Lincolnshire and California is on the Norfolk coast.
According to various online map services with minimal traffic it should be possible to drive from New York to California in roughly two and quarter hours so I set myself three hours to allow for traffic, tractors, road works and other detritus we get on the road over here. The plan being as soon as restrictions were lifted I would do the run for the sake of it.
Then on the 4th July my friends husband became one of the victims of a faulty batch of fireworks that nearly blew his face off. Causing serious damage to his left eye and no NHS over the pond they have bills in excess of $60,000 (so far).
Due to lock down personally my hours had been reduced from five or six days a week to just two. I ran out of savings and had to start selling everything I could to keep my head up after eight months. I consider myself fortunate as I know many others who have had it just as bad or worse.
The only reason I mention it is because if I had the money to help my friends I would have.
One thing I do have is time.
Roll on "freedom day" as much of an anticlimax that was. I decided that if I was going to do the New York to California Cannonball Run ish I would do a short video and post a link to a donation page.

Spoiler alert I managed the drive in two hours and thirty-four minutes.

Here's a bit of a development. Facebook have threatened me with jail for posting a link to this thread with a supporting photo for the Pistonheads Facebook page monthly-ish photo competition.
Fake checked because they think it is impossible and therefore misleading to drive from New York to California in under three hours. Even though from the offset I state New York, Lincolnshire; California, Norfolk; England and the clip is video evidence thereof.
Having explained that to them, if they actually followed the link to this thread or watched the clip they would have known. They then marked it as Spam even though it is for a Facebook Donate page. Basically they are saying their own sight is spam. Fair enough.
Having explained that they marked it as criminal activity so I had to explain to them rule three, "Obey the law" something else that if they actually bothered to view the clip they would have known.
The really sad thing is I don't think it was an automated algorithm and some arsehat from the Pistonheads Facebook page, flagged and reported it. So jealous of the idea of a Fiat Panda wining the photo contest. Pathetic.
I'm thinking of doing the run again but instead of a clip a live stream showing all two hours and however many minutes but that would be tiresome for all involved.

Farcepuke's censorbots are deranged. Entirely innocent postings get you a ban, and yet the anti-vaxxers and so on get free rein. They're particularly bad at humour or irony. I suspect the "service" is operated by autistic 12 y/o's from the Bible Belt.Fake checked because they think it is impossible and therefore misleading to drive from New York to California in under three hours. There's your problem in a nutshellNew York to Boston takes about six minutes but just like Boston in America I can't think of a reason why I would want to go there.
I can't do the run again in my Panda as that's the bench mark. I'll have to try something quicker.
As for Facebook the whole site is misleading. I've been all over the site and there isn't a single link to book the guy from the A-Team anywhere.

...and now I'm blocked from posting on any Facebook group pages. Because I stood up for myself.
Please copy and share the link to the video wherever you can as much as you can.
[shrug]You're pissing in the wind. I've been banned for criticising a fictional person in a book, posting a picture of amusing vegetables (which were fine on That's Life!) and quoting Shakespeare. FB's censorbots are insane. Please copy and share the link to the video wherever you can as much as you can.

Still within 10% + 1 but to be honest I was marking time behind the vehicle ahead.
