Hi,

Any particularly good routes around Malvern?

Currently thinking of heading to Ludlow for lunch but open to suggestions

Thanks

This is my patch! We are about 50 years behind the times here, and we like it that way.

You will enjoy going anywhere in the Malvern-Ludlow-Hereford triangle, and maybe West as far as Kington if you have time. Ludlow is as good as anywhere to aim for. Lovely scenery even if you just stay on the main roads, which are mostly good. Lots of minor roads and villages to explore if that's your thing. Some of the back roads though are rough and narrow, and maybe not best suited to a modern Morgan. Everyone raves about Ludlow, but Leominster is just as interesting if not more so. Tenbury Wells and Ledbury are also worth a look. Hereford is very congested and best avoided, ditto Worcester. Malvern itself is overrated in my opinion, but I'm not supposed to say that. Any questions?

That’s a superb answer and covers everything I hoped for - thanks

Drove into and out of leominster once and it didn’t look tempting - what did I miss??

Any recommendations for lunch?

Hawkshaw it would appear we are neighbours.
I would agree with your summary other than I like Malvern…….however the last thing I would do having rented a Morgan is to stop in the town. I would head up through town to British Camp, down via Colwall and out to Ledbury. Maybe a drive via Tenbury, Bewdley and Stourport.

The one way system in Leominster sucks you in and spits you out the other side and you miss the centre - Broad Street, High Street, Corn Square, The Grange, with lots of antique shops, cafes and ancient buildings, also the Priory Church. Good place to walk around.

Not in Ludlow, but recommended for lunch and olde worldeness - The New Inn at Pembridge, or possibly The Salutation at Weobley.

Yes that's a couple of good routes. South of Hereford across to the Golden Valley and then up to Hay is another one, though that is extending the range a bit perhaps. I have lived here for nearly 20 years and never tire of exploring, but I find that a 2CV is infinitely better around the lanes than a sports car.

Up through town, up to the Wych cutting, then left along Jubilee Drive down to British Camp, ...

The Stagg at Titley (Nr Kington) is well worth a stop. Or The Kilpeck Inn west of Hereford. (make sure to check out the church)

I'd avoid the A49 when possible, and also Hereford city centre can be a nightmare.

Look at a map starting in Ledbury, head north towards Frome Hill, then to Bromyard, then to Tenbury, then to Clee Hill.

The road is the old main road, so is usually pretty quiet.

From Malvern I’d go over castlemorton common head out to eastnor then onto Ledbury then head to bromyard head to Leominster through a few black and white villages like pembridge and there is shobdon airfield where there’s a small cafe and watch a few plane or skip this and head to leintwardine where a nice pub the lion is next to the river then back to Malvern via tenbury Clifton and martley all good roads for a Morgan I know I’ve got one and live near ludlow

I don't know about anyone else, but when I'm driving or riding for fun, heading to villages that have old houses are not on my list. Usually they are full of tourists, have 30mph speed limits and are as dull as chopped liver on toast as far as driving enjoyment.
