Route ideas from Bristol to north wales

Hi everyone. On Saturday I’m going from Wiltshire to Abergele for a weeks holiday. I’ve been a couple times before and have always gone different ways, last year I went via the a470 and elan valley and did part of the evo triangle. Would anyone be able to give me some suggestion on the best roads possible to get me there? Don’t really want to go much over the 5 hour mark but want to go on some good roads!!! Also any suggestions for roads while I’m there? I’ve noted down Llanberis pass but that’s about it lol

I don’t have a route planned yet other than going to elan valley again and the evo triangle.

Gloucester, Leominster, Ludlow, Welshpool, Llanfyllin, Bala (go round the lake if you like), Cerrigyruidion. That'll keep you busy for a while

The road into and out of Llanfyllin is great. I used to do that on the return run from Anglesey to London

That was my idea as well. A49 can be slow but its scenic enough for an A road.

Thanks, that road looks great! Will add it too the list, I was going to detour to cwm cynfal viewpoint as I've been there before by accident and remember it being quite good. But might have to skip that and do this!!!

Don't bother with evo triangle unless you like police and average speed cameras.

A5 turn left at knockin then into bala then anywhere from there you can't go wrong.
