The A34 has been busy the last couple of trips home, usually backed up from the M40.

Is the A429 a viable alternative?

Travelling from Reading area, heading home to Oldham.

Use the M4 and A34 to M40. Just fancy a change.

I usually have choice gearing north A34 M40 etc or m4 A419 M5

Google maps et al were usually always send me the swindon route as fastest route though there are road works on junction 15 at the moment

Surely from Reading you'd take the A404 to High Wycombe and M40 from there?

Just posting the petrolhead route, not the quickest.

The A429 can be tedious in any kind of traffic unless you have a half decent bike.

I went to Cheshire a few weeks ago from Sandhurst and used the A404 then M40. I've used that route for years and they both flow pretty well (unless something goes badly wrong) plus they have no cameras - yet!

I have more of an issue with the M6, but luckily have found some alterntaives for Cheshire - but I don't think they would work for Oldham. Although others may know of ways to avoid too much M6 misery!

Thats the drivers route not the fastest its 2hrs from B4000 to M42 that way! That fast route obviously is North to M40 on A404 , If you go M4 and the A34 is duff and time was important I would do Swindon A419 to Cirencester towards Gloucester and M5 if rush hour to avoid Air Balloon traffic jam I would cut off North Cirencester thru Perriot Brook to A435 North and round to M5 and make decisions M5 M6 or M42 to NEC
