I going to guess that's Mortimer Road off the Sheffield side of the Snake Pass. https://www.google.com/maps/@53.3992066,-1.6682776...

The problem with the Peak District is that most of the best driving roads have heavily enforced 50mph limits and it can get very busy. That said I still enjoy sections of the Cat & Fiddle road even if I'm a bit slower than I'd like.

The Yorkshire Dales and North Pennines are better places to explore if you want empty, open NSL roads.

I'd say many of those roads and views are over on Strines and area, as it's known locally rather than Mortimer Road.

The aerial drone shots as he's driving across a reservoir dam is definitely on Rivelin dam towards the end of Redmires road and onto Wyming Brook Way

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.3739274,-1.58404...

Not been there for a long time but my guess is that some of the static shots amongst trees are around Wyming Brook. Back in 70s Wyming Brook used to be a nice loose surfaced quiet track useful in the middle of the night for a quick check of rally car handling setup. whistle Would imagine that's all been stopped now.

Also agree with above comments that the tightly policed restricted speed limit roads across Peak District have ruined some previously excellent and largely empty driving roads. Eg 50 mph across Ringinglow where the only 'person' to be disturbed might be a few sheep behind drystone walls.

There are tons of great roads in the Peaks, admittedly if you like A roads then they are more heavily Policed. But if you drive something small and British then the B roads are your thing and ten Peaks offers much.

Thanks all.

Had a little explore, lots of police as you say!

Preferred the Dales. North Wales still bad for police?

I can't comment on N. Wales in 2021 as we're only allowed over the border from last Monday, I'm planning on going this weekend.

I was in the dales the other weekend though.

It's the usual thing with both, if you know the roads then you know where plod usually is going to be, usual speed traps/mobile cameras etc. I didn't have any issues in the dales the other week, some police around but plenty of people signalling and they were all in the usual places, even had a good chat with a nice female police officer in Hawes while munching on my bag of chips.

I’d like to try out the roads in the North Pennines. Penrith - Alston - Middleton in Teesdale - Kirkby Stephen. Very quiet, open sightlines, can’t imagine too many police around there?

Do you recommend any routes? I don’t tend to enjoy single track roads because you either get stuck behind a sightseer or worry about meeting someone head-on at high speed.
