South Wales to North Wales – Help!

Just arrived in Cardiff and tomorrow morning I'm waking up and driving to Bangor (or nearby).

Please help me plan a scenic route! Was supposed to spend the last couple of weeks researching and planning but got stuck working and ran out of time.

I've spent a fair bit of time in the Beacons so I'm happy going up through there and out the top on the B4520... that's as far as I've got.

Nice views, detours welcome, preferably off the main routes for less traffic... all suggestions welcomed!

POI's or villages/towns as way points would be fine, I think Builth Wells > Llanidloes would be next section of the route, then maybe up the B4518 past the Clywedog Reservoir?

A470 from Builth until Llanidloes. Depending on time either drive through the Hafren forest or bypass it on B4518.
You can stay on this to Llanbrynmair on the A470, or detour halfway and take the mountain pass to Machynlleth to pickup the A487 until you get to the A470 again.

Thats great, thanks! Kind of the general direction I had in mind. Any suggestions of routes through Snowdonia to get from Machynlleth to Bethesda? Any not to miss roads in the Snowdonia region?

A470 from Machynlleth through Dolgellau and up to Betws y Coed, then join the A5 all the way to Bangor.

How did you get on Kewy? If I’d have seen this sooner I’d have responded with some alternative options, a few key routes weren’t mentioned but I hope you had a great time all the same?
