Hi,

I know Birmingham is not a nice place to be however I am hoping to discover a nice long stretch of road to drive on with nice scenic views or if thats not possible in Birmingham then is there such a road that exists out of Birmingham near to it or in the West or East Midlands thats closest to Birmingham?

I say closest because there may be a nice road out of Birmingham but will probably take over a hour to get there on the dull motorway you know what I mean.

Lastly when getting to the recommended road is it just tapping on avoiding motorways on google maps to get the best driving route to the starting point of the best driving roads? Whats the best settings for google maps?

Finally is there any beautiful Gems to discover in the East or West Midlands where you can park up and enjoy the views? Like hidden Gems not spoilt by lots of tourists you know what I mean.

Malvern Hills, drive round the hills, great scenery. Plenty of places to park up and avoid the tourists and great roads with views.

Well it depends on where in Birmingham you're coming from. It's a big city and will take you ~30-60min+ to get to the other side...

There are plenty of good roads, then again it depends what kind of vehicle you're in and what you're after.

Okay I keep a note of that.

Is there like a recommended starting point to drive to 1st to begin the Malvern drive to what finish point, like what are road names and best way to plan on google maps when leaving my house?

Near to central Birmingham B9 by Heartlands Hospital I am based.

Car is not fast, I am after like a scenic cruise and if the roads are fun to drive then thats a bonus.

Maybe:-

M6 North to exit at Junction 12
Turn left on to the A5 and follow the signs for Telford (not a particularly twisty road, but the countryside is agreeable)
After going past Weston Park, at the next island take the 3rd exit on to the A41 North towards Newport (some nice corners on this stretch)
At Newport, at the first island go straight on (A41) for about a quarter of a mile
At the next island, take the 3rd exit on to the A518 towards Stafford (this is the best road on the route)
When you reach Stafford town centre, follow the signs for the A449 South; this will take you back to the M6

Aim for Bridgnorth. Then do any of the B roads in the area between there and Much Wenlock, Church Stretton, Ludlow, Bromyard ares. The roads are twisty and fun, not busy and the scenery is fantastic

Nearest to you is to got Junction 10 of the M42, turn East along the A5, then anywhere off to the North. Countryside rather than scenery, but quite pleasant and roads tend to be fairly quiet. If you want to go to the South of Birmingham, which will take longer, then take the M5 to Junction 5, then Droitwich bypass (A38) and turn off towards Tenbury (A4133, A443, A456) We go that way most weekends (well we do now that we can smile ) and never tire of the vista opening up. Best road for views is B4203 from Great Witley to Bromyard and then you get to the Elgar Country around the Malverns as mentioned previously.

Just commit to driving a bit further and you'll have all this to explore...

Snowdonia National Park and the Brecon Beacons are probably less than 2 hours out of Birmingham.

Initially set your destination as being "Newport Shropshire". Google Maps will try and send you down the M54, so just drag the suggested blue line North to tell it to send you down the A5 instead.

When you get to the outskirts of Newport, park up in the small retail park next to Aldi and ask for directions from your current location to Stafford. It will take you up the A518.

Having said that, another poster's suggestion of heading to Bridgnorth is excellent. Set your destination to "Morville Bridgnorth", then when you get there look for the Acton Arms pub on the right. Park up, and ask it for directions to Ludlow from your current destination. It'll send you down the B4368 which is one of the best driving roads in Shropshire.

Yes, when I say island I do mean a roundabout

Spend a day in Brum (road in) and a day in Malvern (road out) and you will have your answer smile

Okay I always rely on sat nav to get me to places as I am not good with directions and can get lost.

So its just the simple matter of putting Malvern in google maps and putting Birmingham in google maps and I will drive on nice roads and no boring motorways?

Weather turning good,

Any last places that are worthy of mentioning?

The Peak District is same distance to Malvern Hills right so why wasn't it mentioned here?

Probably because (IIRC) most, if not all, of the NSL roads in the Peak District have a blanket 50 speed limit
