Just planning a trip for July and wanted suggestions about routes and places to stay.

Going to drive from Wurtburg to Fussen in Germany via the romantic road, from there go to do the Fussen,Furka,Grimsel passes then head back up via the black forest road to Baden-Baden.

Roughly 4hrs a day driving would be about right.

Don't forget to include enough time to set up a re-creation of the Goldfinger sniper shot, if you've got a mate with an old Rolls Royce to take along with you?

I've done similar destinations as this in the past. Great area to be driving around.

So, on the link below, this is what I would do for your destinations:

https://mydrive.tomtom.com/en_gb/#mode=routes+view...

The route linked will take you down from Fussen in to Austria (remember to buy vignette), and then will take you along some scenic roads down to the first mountain pass - at location (1).
You actually have an option here to take the Fluela Pass or drive a bit further south to pick up the Albula Pass. Both spectacular - but Fluela edges it for me.

From the end of which ever pass you choose, you want to then head over to pick up route 19. And this route is the famous OberAlp Pass - the route that the Glacial Express Train runs along. You;ll likely see the train heading one direction or the other whilst driving the route. Great views as you drop down the western side.

At the end of the OberAlp Pass - at location (2) - pick up straight away on the Furka Pass. Another stunning road. A little narrow in places on the eastern side, easily done in a normal car, but you just need to be alert for anything large coming the other way. (Slowing down a bit is all that is usually required).

Half way along the Furka Pass as you drop down having conquered the first peak, you'll be able to pick up on the Grimsel Pass which is a right hand turn to take in the valley - easily sign posted and shouldn't miss it. (You'll likely see sports cars and bikers heading off in that direction anyway).

Grimsel Pass is another stunning road.
Coming down the other side of the peak look out to turn right at Interkerchen to pick up on the Susten Pass - at location (3).
Enjoy this one and then on reaching route 2 take a left turn and head up to Luzern.

From Luzern it is then an easy drive up to the Black Forest in Germany.

Note on the linked route plan, some areas are greyed out due to current snowed pass closures. The Swiss passes generally open around early to middle of May - depending on how much snow has fallen over the winter and also on the last significant snow fall of the winter-spring season.

Oberalp, Furka, Grimsel, Susten is a classic route. Do the Gotthard and Nufenen as well if you have time

Susten is the pick of them all from a driving perspective

Done a similar trip years ago, the days covering your area:

Wuzburg - Fussen. Early start for the romantic road, great day going through some lovely towns, few unrestricted sections on the 7 south. Stayed in Fussen for two nights, great town, good food the pubs were excellent, great beer and lots of live traditional music. Place was jumping. (Neuschwanstein castle here and only 5 miles to the Austrian border)

Fussen - Chur. Picked up our Austrian Vigntte (7 euro) before crossing into Austria. decided to head over towards San moritz however we cut off the road at Susch and headed for Davos over the Fluela pass, what a road, great high pass with fantastic views!

Chur - Lake Como. This was the drive I'd really been looking forward to, we headed up over the Oberalp pass and then over the Furkapass, temp had been about 22'c in Chur, at the top of the Furkapass it was 2'c! With snow at the side of the road. (In August) From there we headed over the Nufenpass and down to Lake Como.

If you have a spare afternoon and like Steve Mcqueen / The great escape... you can pop over to Pfronten when staying in Fussen.

You'll probably recognise some of the buildings...;)

And yes on the Davos road too... it's amazing.

There is a long (very cold) tunnel to go through near there as well if you take the 301 from Bormio...cools you right down in the hot summer days!

We had 10 days this year down, around and back from the Alps, so double checked the passes we managed, so more than the big 3 to choose from:

Fussen & Luzern are great places to visit.

Fussen - The castle(s) is the main attraction of course but if you have the time take the cable car ride up to Tagelberg mountain. Cafe at the top and spectacular views. Great vies of Neuswanstein Castle from the cable car too.

(Fun rodelbahn there also - these are good for letting your hair down and also taking in the views)

Luzern - is a nice place to simply take a relaxing stroll through the town centre and along the river and lake.
The lion monument is also within easy walking distance.
