Why Are They Salting Motorways In Dry Warm Conditions

Why are Highways England wasting fortunes on salting roads when it’s bone dry,4.5 degrees with the following weeks weather dry and sunny?

Because the road temp will most likely be colder than air temp.

We had a fairly heavy frost here yesterday morning (can needed a full de-ice) so gritting the roads is not a wholly daft idea.

Been gritting around my way also, no reason why that I can see.
My road is never gritted and did it freeze? any ice patches? was there hell...

With no rain forecast for3 days and dry roads what is there to freeze,I’m pretty sure dry concrete can’t freeze

It might be more sensible to fix a few Pot Holes with that money

And if it had frozen, and you or someone else had skidded/crashed as result, I suspect you (and no doubt others) would've been the first to complain the road was icy and hadn't been gritted ....
