Short of a few bursts of speed when clear most are too busy to max out or cruise at a high speed, roughly 90-100 may be possible but always limits at on off ramps
Last point not true. From the German traffic ministry - so probably they know best -
are that average autobahn speed is about 145 kmh and about 15% of the traffic is doing
over 170 kmh.
200 kmh perfectly ordinary speed. The German network is 3-4 times as long
as the UK network and most of it is unlimited.
Which makes for fast and effective progress.
Accident rates are similar to the European average.

About 50% has some Tempolimit. It is not mostly unlimited.
Easily disproved. Wikipedia saysA 2017 report by the Federal Road Research Institute reported that in 2015 70.4% of the autobahn network had only the advisory speed limit, 6.2% had temporary speed limits due to weather or traffic conditions, and 23.4% had permanent speed limits.

I bloody love the Autobahn.
I bloody hate it. The section I have to use everyday to and from work is always full and any ideas of unlimited speed are a dream. The autobahns in the old east are much quieter and generally better quality. I'd head over to that side if I wanted some unrestricted fun.
Having spent 3 months to date living in Munich, I can confirm that there are a good selection of derestricted autobahns in Bavaria!
I commute a 200km round trip each day, 180km on Autobahn and 148km of which is derestricted.
Very rare IME to have limits around on/off-ramps.
As has been said, off peak times are best for speed runs, but it's still entirely possible to hit 260kph at commuting times... often in convoy.

Welcome to Bavaria. I’ve lived here 5 years. And I concur... I get to set cruise to 270 km/h from time to time. Best recent Autobahn experience...overtaking the late evening high speed train heading south on the A9 from Nurnberg, tyres squealing through the corners... in a convoy!I commute a 200km round trip each day, 180km on Autobahn and 148km of which is derestricted.

Hello, I'm over in the west in BW!270km/h is quite some spreed, even for the Autobahn. What were you driving?

The car was an Audi RS7. I’ve had people overtake me fairly often at 250, so 270 is a bit more chilled. I’ve had over 320 indicated speed a few times, but that is pretty rare...and it wasn’t an Audi.
Early sunday morning, A8 north of Munich toward Stuttgart is one of my favorite stretches. A good 30-40 miles usually of 3/4 lane wide, great visibility, empty road - just as long as you hit it early. Was doing a steady 170mph in my 456 last year or the year before out of there and got smoked by an RS6 (debadged) that flew past me.

Have to agree, I've done thousands of miles on Autobahns over the last 6 or so years (first trip was in an MX5 to Berlin in 2013).The autobahns in the old east are much quieter and generally better quality. I'd head over to that side if I wanted some unrestricted fun.
Opportunities to max out a car are becoming increasingly less frequent as the infrastructure is wearing out, increasing roadworks plus increasing traffic. Elephant racing trucks are a real issue, throwing people out into lane 3 of unrestricted sections at 100km/h.
I have maxed out between Bonn and Berlin, but only for short stretches, if only because my brain struggles to cope with the demands of safely driving at speeds of 130-140mph. Notching it down to around 110mph is much more comfortable.
I seem to remember from my time out there, that although the road can be unristricted your insurance is not. And if you are involved in an accident that is deemed to be caused by excessive speed for the conditions, your insurance will be invalid.
I only get the car over there a few times a year now but I love seeing that sign and opening her up.
As said earlier, watch your mirrors. And never underestimate your braking distance. Touching the brakes at 200+mph will really unsettle the car. You need to factor in a good few seconds for the car to slow due to drag and settle before really pressing the brake.
