Hi Chris

I've done almost this exact route (B500) in our S2 135R in 2016, i'll try and dig out our route this evening.

However, i would add, I've also driven North through the Black forest from Mulhouse via Freiburg all the way up to Strasbourg avoiding the B500 and it was a much more entertaining drive. This is however a much longer route.

The B500 is great, but you'll find you're often being held up by a lorry, or a group of bikers: hence on our second visit we avoided it entirely!

How many days were you hoping to take to do the drive, i guess this would help decide which route.

James

(Edited - accidently put N500 Typo, meant B500)

Hi James...
Thanks very much for that ...
We get the ferry to rotterdam Friday then heading to baden baden Saturday... Sunday we're heading to Lucerne from baden baden which I'm planning to incorporate the best route .... how long did it take you to do that trip ???
Then we are staying in Lucerne for 2 nights then on to grindelward for 3 nights... planning on doing the furka, grimsel and susten passes ..
Then heading back up to Strasbourg for a night then back to rotterdam for the ferry ...

Is that number 5 road a good road then ???? That's the way my sat nav is taking me but I wasn't sure if that was the correct road or to get onto that 500 road ....
Thank you
Much appreciated

Hi Chris

The 5 is just an Autobahn, although it has quite a long derestricted section through the Black Forest, its still just a motorway, so not very exciting.

The B500, is a smaller road, but still quite a busy route, with tourists and Lorries. It's still a great drive through the Black Forest, it's very picturesque with lots of places to stop and enjoy the views. We drove it in September time too but you may be more fortunate with the traffic.

If you want to get from Baden Baden to Lucerne in one day, i think it's about the best way to do it. Over several days, taking the smaller less busy roads through the Black Forest would be my preference.

Have a great time doing the Furka, Grimsel and Susten Passes, some of my favourites. If you're daytripping from Grindelwald i'd suggest you could also try the Nufenen and Gotthard pass in a day. You can route like a figure of 8 , which means you do the Furka pass twice (no bad thing) but it's fantastic days driving!

I'd suggest something like this for a basic route with plenty of time to stop - Link

Alternatively these are some sections of some routes I've created and driven in recent time. These are from when i was driving from Mulhouse to Strasbourg and are split into sections because google cant cope with too many diversions. But maybe you could incorporate some of this into you route if you want to do a longer time. These are much quieter smaller roads, but are fantastic to drive. I've done them all in the 135R. (Although i was heading North not South)

Section2

Ok that's great thanks... I might go for that route then .... it puts 2 hours on the journey compared to the quickest route but will be alot more enjoyable wouldn't it...
Thanks for the help
Cheers

No worries, you’ll have a great time. I’ve stopped in Freudenstadt for lunch before which was very nice, might be a bit early for a lunch stop for you though. Freiburg is a Little off the route but is also a very nice city and would make a good lunch stop.

Enjoy your trip! Upload some photos too! I presume you’ll be in an Exige?
