Visiting South West Wales shortly and just wondering what the A40 from Llandovery down to Haverfordwest is like.

Is it a fun / interesting road or like so many trunk roads now traffic calmed and managed so you just sit in a procession?

Any recommendations for nice interesting roads in the south west corner of Wales ie south of Aberystwyth. west of Llandrindod Wells?

Also recommendations for routes down to Llandrindod from Chester?

Thanks

It's not too bad but can get jammed up with caravans this time of year. Just before Camarthen to St Clears is dual carriageway. From St Clears to Haverfordwest tends to be the slow bit as you have all the traffic from the M4 .

You can generally expect to sit in convoy on the single carriageway sections at this time of the year.

There are some nice overtaking stretches but all you generally find yourself doing it catching up with the next convoy!

I drove it last weekend from up near Ludlow via Llandrindod Wells, Llandovery etc down to the other side of Haverfordwest.

Great scenery whatever speed you’re doing. From your way the obvious route would be via Welshpool and Newtown (new bypass) and then pick up the same route I used.
