Hi All,
Please could anyone advise on the best route to take on the above trip avoiding altitudes of 1,100 - 1,200 m - Max - I would be grateful to those with intimate knowledge of those roads as we are travelling with young people who suffer badly with ear pain and ear infections at altitudes above those stated.
Many thanks
Lynn

Hello Lynn,

I’ve done this trip before.

I can’t help with altitudes, but the most painless way down is to go south through the middle of the country (by-passing Madrid.

It’s a tedious drive- mile after mile of long straight (good condition) roads punctuated by distant mountain ranges, some of which require some altitude.

There is a coast road running from north east Spain (Salou - French border) which may be lower lying (because it’s nearer the coast) but getting there from San Sebastián would mean a trip across the Pyrenees.

Probably best heading for Madrid, and due south towards Granada
