Hi Pistonheads!

I've got my licence last month and I'm trying to get by in the London urban jungle.
My daily commute includes turning right at the junction below - coming from the city (A4) into Windmill road.

https://www.google.com/maps/@51.4899137,-0.3087681...

As you can see, the visibility is reduced due to the M4 flyover, and usually there is a lot of traffic in rush hour.
I'm confused about how to asses the situation - the green lights window is small and once I'm past the traffic lights, I'm in uncharted territory basically.
There are two yellow boxes, in which one should I wait?
In the Google Maps link above, suppose I'm the silver car right in front of the Tesco van and I'm turning right towards where the bus is.

Thanks

You don't need to do it in one move. You turn into the area between the 2 box junctions which then puts you at a "give way" where you then wait until the road is clear both ways before proceeding across the next box junction.

It seems pretty simple, or am I missing something?

So you'll remember from your highway code...
You MUST NOT enter the box until your exit road or lane is clear. However (this is the important bit), you may enter the box and wait when you want to turn right, and are only stopped from doing so by oncoming traffic, or by other vehicles waiting to turn right. The regular rule of giving way to oncoming traffic doesn't apply here as there isn't any (it's a one way road).

So looking at the initial junction in isolation, you can enter into the yellow box as you're turning right. The set of lights the silver car etc are waiting for relate to the second junction, not to yours, so you can enter the box on green to queue to turn right without further concern.
At those second set of lights, and the second yellow box, your action depends on what you're doing. If you're going straight over you must wait for a green light AND the exit straight ahead to be clear. If you're turning right, you can enter the box on green & queue, waiting for your exit to present itself.

Lastly, there's huge misconception about that first paragraph in the UK. People turning right will not enter the yellow box because they think 'thou shalt not enter the yellow box', but you can for turning right. Don't get me started on u-turns on mini roundabouts.

I know the highway rules, I understand I only go in the yellow box when the exit is clear and for turning right (still the exit must be clear).

It's more clear now, looking at the junction and realising that indeed there are two one-way roads in there, each one with its own yellow box.

The problem is, in rush hour, it's much harder because cars behind me expect me to run the yellow light. It's stressful.
Once I go on yellow and for some reason (can happen in a split second, since I'm slower on manoeuvres) the spot can be taken by someone else.
