Surprised this hasn't made more news

Default limits without considering road type is never a good idea imo.

I have to say I'm not surprised; the 30 limits around here are regularly abused so it was only a matter of time before big brother stepped in. Once again the minority spoil it for everyone else.

I agree but a new limit will make no difference, people will just break the limit by an extra 10 mph

There's a 20mph limit through much of my parents' village, but one section of it is about 300m on the edge of the village with no houses or any real reason for a 20 mph limit.

No one obeys it, not even busses or police cars.

We used to have a temporary 20 limit outside our local school on what used to be an A road (redesignated as a B when they built the bypass).
It's now a permanent 20

It's ridiculous. I have no issue during school drop off and pick up, but it is unnecessary at 2am.
A few years ago it was 60mph

A school on a 60 road, sounds a bit iffy. Where's this them?

My boss keeps on saying that 20mph limits cannot be legally enforced? Surely they can as they wouldn't bother with them?

I think the green signs saying 20's plenty, in 30 isn't legal, the others same colour as 30 are.

Seems to be have many fined for exceeding 20, there is a thread on PH's somewhere.

"but less severance of communities due to traffic speed."

its not the berlin wall their pulling down, traffic separated families will now cross the rod, hug in the middle of it and have a street party lol

All 30mph now being 20mph just means that all 20mph will be routinely ignored completely. When I'm driving an the limits go from a 30 to a 20, it makes me more aware that there might be something significant about the road (school or something) and to be extra aware. It'll now mean nothing.

A stupid decision that will accomplish nothing other than diluting the importance of the 20mph limits.
