Hi All,

As above, planning a quick jaunt in May/June with a few friends and looking for some pointers.

The rough outline is to leave London on a Thursday afternoon to take the overnight ferry from Portsmouth, arriving in St Malo the next morning.

From St Malo we plan to drive to Bordeaux, stopping at Ile De Re for lunch. The following day (Saturday) we will be looking to do essentially the reverse, driving from Bordeaux to Rennes and spending the night in Rennes. The next morning (Sunday) will blast from Rennes back to St Malo to get the morning ferry back to Portsmouth.

These roads are all new to us so would appreciate any suggestions on nice driving or scenic roads to take anywhere along the route.

At this stage we're looking to take mainly motorway from St Malo to Ile De Re as there is quite a big distance to kill. I guess the biggest pointers we'd be looking for are fun roads that we could dip off the motorway and take roughly the same direction without adding too much to the overall journey time. The drive from Bordeaux to Rennes looks quite nice too and we have a whole day to do it, so would love to hear if anyone has any recommendations for that segment.

Any restaurant or rest stop suggestions would be greatly appreciated too!

Thanks,
Andrew

Just spotted this - sorry.

Bain-de-Bretagne is a pretty little town if you wanted a coffee stop.

An alternative route with marginally more interesting roads (but longer time) would be via Segré and Cholet and this avoids the Nantes ring-road which can be difficult to navigate and congested - I usually take the wrong exit somewhere around it!
