Average speed cameras for evo triangle
Discussion
It's a shame, but you kinda have to look at it from the point of view of the locals - with an innocent someone having been killed on there by an out of control road tripper I guess the pressure on local authorities is to "sort it out".
Now..... ...... if I'd have been in charge, I'd have closed it to local traffic and made it one way - 12 hours clockwise before midday, 12 hours anti clockwise after midday.

Good idea. Could even toll it Nurburgring style. There’s naff all there otherwise, would be good for the local economy.SarGara said:
Seems an awful lot of money for something that I suspect will sit dormant a large portion of the time at night/off season?
It's a cretinous waste of resources. Not because, very possibly, people drive irresponsibly there, but because it is a completely sunk cost. Once installed, it will stop the speed, although not necessarily any other dangerous aspects of driving - i.e. drifting through corners. There are probably far greater uses the funds could have been put to locally, for much wider benefit. You can be the nearest A&E might well be grateful for that sort of funding, for example.
It's probably only survived this long because 99% of the time it is deserted.
I am not sure weather to say this or not as most on here will not like it.
The cars and bikes heading out to wales on a sunny day at the weekend are treating the place like a race track and the locals don't like it. This is understandable as you would not like the road outside your house being treated like a race track. There is barely a day now when you can drive through Bala without seeing a speed camera. If the people coming to Wales for a drive respected the speed limits in the villages no one would complain, and there would be no problem. I like a spirited drive as much as the next person, but living in a village on the way to north wales' best driving roads i here what the locals are saying. And they will keep complaining as long as it keeps happening. It will end up like the peak district with 50 mph limits and speed cameras everywhere.

With closed road motorsport being a thing now, they could have average speed cameras strictly keeping speeds down except for days when they close it off and make it toll only, like the ring. You could run sprints there, track days or allow magazines to film in a safe environment. It would make money, encourage tourism and have the benefit of the road being safe at other times because people couldn’t speed without getting a fine

They are active now according to 2 locals I met in the Beacons today.
Such a shame really, only time I made it up there it was deserted. No other car to be seen. And this on a weekend.
Should have just closed it off and made it into a mini ring and monetised it.
I believe they have monetised it without closing it Such a shame really, only time I made it up there it was deserted. No other car to be seen. And this on a weekend.

Awww sheeeit. I just drove it and only realised the average speed cameras at the northern tip after driving past the speed cameras. Such a shame really, only time I made it up there it was deserted. No other car to be seen. And this on a weekend.

It was 6am and no one to be seen. Wasnt even gunning it, just a fast cruise. Unfortunately an F80 M3 cruises about 70mph. I did stop along the way to take pics, being a tourist and all, so hopefully no ticket...

I wonder what happens if people start destroying the cameras. Would they keep replacing them? Often burnt out cameras sit like that for years.
Vandalism is a crime that would be prosecuted in the usual way. I wonder if EVO magazine are somewhat to blame for highlighting it and thus it’s readers and PH folk go along with some idiots racing on it.

We all have a duty to be sensible and sympathetic to the local community, there's enough anti car and anti driving for recreation rhetoric out there as it is without people getting resident's and councils backs up with inappropriate driving. It's the same in cities where tunnel running has effectively been shut down due to large groups making a racket at all hours, plus burnouts etc, and the idiots speeding through side streets leading to humps and 20 limits.
