Bangor, Wales to High Wycombe
Discussion
Many thanks for the route suggestions. I did cheat a bit by using the M40 into Oxford, then onto the A44.
If you're not in a rush, then it's a very scenic route and an enjoyable drive and I drove through a lot of towns/villages that I'd never been through before, which is always a treat!
We've just come back from Bangor after her 1st "year" with a car full of student detritus and came down the M56/M6/M40 which was boring but efficient.
It's North Scotland for me & the Mrs in August for 7/8 days. Can't wait.

The only bit you might want to add to the above is turn left at Capel Curig and head to Llanberis.
On the subject of the A5 via Pont Pen-y-benglog vs A4086 via Llanberis I do love the trip from Capel Curig to Llanberis, but the A5 is more dramatic in view and has a greater impact on me, especially when heading South. But I would try to do both roads if I could (I normally do)Personally I would head from Ffestiniog towards Beddgelert and up the A498 and then towards Capel Curig to get some of the views of Snowdon, and then down A5 towards Bangor.
