2018 Yorkhire-Wales-Cotswolds tour
Discussion
Hi,
we are 5 Belgian Porsche petrolheads(+ wifes) for whom I'm organising a tour(15th -23th July) starting in Hull
1th day Yorkshire Dales, staying 2 nights in Kendal, then we are heading to North Wales to Chirk
3 days in North and South Wales, last day in Beanacre(south of the Cotswolds)before returning by the south of England to Dover.
Working out my routes I use google maps,+ more then enough stuff for Wales on this gassing station.
Just for day 3 Kendal-Chirk I'm trying to get a mixture of scenic roads in combination with some fast roads motorway(seen the distance)
Thinking of passing through the forest of Bowland and or the Peak District, but not obvious.
Any nice suggestions?
many thanks
Roland

I would definitely go through the Forest of Bowland.
As a local, and knowing the Forest well, my route would be:
Kendal->Burton-in-Lonsdale -> Bentham -> Slaidburn -> Newton-in-Bowland (have a pint in the Parker's arms) -> Whitewell (have lunch at the Inn at Whitewell) -> Chipping -> Broughton
You could stop for a walk around Slaidburn/Whitewell if that's something that takes your fancy.
Once you're at Broughton I'd take the motorway past Preston, then I'd divert into the Ormskirk area, but I don't know the roads well enough down there to recommend a particular route.

While at Kendal I'd actually head into the lake district and do a few hours loop around there.
Windermere - A592(kingstone pass) - troutbeck - Keswick - A591 Ambleside - Torver A593 (great pub the Wilson arms on the junction with A5084) - back to Kendal
Back out at Kendal and head to Forest of Bowland like suggested above for the afternoon.
Then not bother with anything else along the way and get straight to Chirk - M6 - M56 - M53 - A55 - A483 - 2 hours tops (avoiding rush hour), ready for north wales the next day.
