Hi all

I'm off to Austria in September for a short break. Been a fair few years ago without a car, but this time going to rent something nice.

My plan is Munich to Berchtesgaden, then onto my hotel in Kitzbuhel.
If the weather is good one day go up Grossglockner, but early AM to avoid the traffic.
Other time just local touring.

I've heard the drive to Berchtesgaden is good, and so is from there to Zell Am See. Anyone have any other local passes or road recommendations?

Anyone driven back from Grossglockner through The Valley (towards Lienz, Huben, Mittersill)? Looked a nice quieter road with good scenery.

Many thanks in advance

Grossglock is a bit cr*p. Don't bother. It's 30 quid for roads that are too smooth, too wide, not that twisty, and good but not great scenery.

See if you can head south over to the border, to Cortina and the Passo di Giau in northern Italy. Best scenery and twisties in Europe. Several passes nearby that are stunning to drive and see.

Stop for Hitler's Castle in Berchtesgaden. Fascinating and spectacular place.
