The OH and I are off to Italy this summer, anybody know of any great roads in/around the Tuscany area where I can thrash the spuds out of the hire car?

Also I haven't driven on the continent before, does anybody have any tips for driving in Italy - mad locals, crazy cyclists, endless tooting of horns?

Cheers

Apart from being world champions at tailgating, and a propensity to drive down the middle of rural roads, it's no big problem driving in Italy. Tooting of horns is pretty rare too - I believe it's actually banned in most cities.

Tuscany is mostly country lanes and not that great for hooning about, unless you want to discover yourself upside-down in a vineyard.

I agree with the post above, they tailgate you like you wouldn't believe, drive like complete tts without consideration for other road users (much like the UK) laugh

I prepare myself for the Italian driving every year, and every year I am surprised as just how st they are.

Great country though, I absolutely love it.

And some of the SS roads are in an appalling condition.

I used to think the SS12 up to Maranello quite fun, till I got a little airborne and pooped myself.
