Best route Manchester to Chesterfield?

I regularly have to spin over the peaks to Chesterfield to visit a customer.

Should be a dream but dealing with the A6 and then fairly heavy traffic once on the decent roads make the whole journey pretty frustrating.

Can anyone recommend an alternative route?

I'd take 30 mins extra travel time for quieter A/b roads and ditching the A6!

Sparrowpit is the A6 route he's trying to avoid.

You could leave the A6 at Chapel, go up Rushup Edge, down Winnats, through the Hope Valley, through Hathersage towards Sheffield, then leave that road at Fox House (turn right) to Owler Bar, 3nd exit off the big roundabout at Owler Bar to Barlow, then on to Chesterfield.

The most direct route is the one you're using. Not all that bad, is it?

Watch out for camera vans after Sparrowpit, by the way.

couldnt you pick up the a623? onto the a619 and follow that route?

Be a crime not to drive under Rushup Edge if you're over that way. If you're going over in summer take the next left over the top and go through Edale to Hope. Amazing scenery, in fact the best that I can think of considering your route.

I got the impression that the OP was referring to using considerably more of it than the 1.7 miles at Chapel-en-le-Frith in my third link posted above.

An exact description of the second half of the route in my Winnats Pass link. Did you look at any of ones I posted?
