With more and more talk of great drives e.g North Coast 500 and many car hire companies now offering sports and prestige cars, it occurred to me that combining the 2, possibly with cheap flights and even one-way rental, that this would be a great concept.

e.g. Cheap flight to Inverness on a Tuesday, 48 hours hire of an M3/M4/M5 via Thrifty then fly home Thursday - would be a very cost effective way of being a petrolhead. Probably cheaper than driving to Inverness and back in my own car. I'm sure there are even better options in Europe.

Are there any books or websites on 'airport to airport' great drives in hired sports cars? Has anybody done something similar?

P.S. I'm driving from Vegas to the Grand Canyon and back next month - have hired a Mustang V8 convertible from Enterprise Exotic.

"Sorry, we don't have one available. But we do have a Hyundai Genesis for the same price."

Like most performance hire sites, main factor is mileage allowance. It doesn't take to long to 'use' up your allowance and can quite easily become very expensive.

GetCarter - what's the daily rate, 100/150 miles??

Another option is Avis Prestige. I've taken a F-Type and XKR from them previously and the joy of those is unlimited mileage.

They don't rent out of Inverness however and Edinburgh is the best bet, but the drive from there North is great as long as you avoid the A9.

Edinburgh>Glen Coe>Loch Ness>Inverness on the way up, and Inverness>Braemar>Perth>Edinburgh on the way down.
