I have heard that there are long queues between Germany and Austria as the authorities check every car due to the refugee crisis. I imagine the frontiers between France, Italy and Austria are similar. As the crisis is unlikely to abate, if anything the opposite, are road trips now a thing of the past? Any recent experiences welcome!

Wow! I have got anecdotal evidence (friend of friend whom I didn't directly speak to, however) that they are checking cars individually on the German/Austrian border on the A8 autobahn - leading to long tailbacks.

Did you experience anything like this?
