So I know from previous forums that it is a boring run, crap scenery and mainly motorways, but does anyone else think it's one of those trips that you need to do? Living in Yorkshire whichever way I go, it's double the mileage but I feel it's a must for 2016.

What I would ideally think is this type of trip is best if there is a few of you. What do you think

It doesn't matter what part of the country you live in it's at least double the mileage.

I reckon it'd be a good drive but I'd need more than a day and I'd avoid motorways.

It being over 1700 miles (home to home) I think it may well take more than a day!

Stick to the west coast in Scotland. It'll take much longer but be much more fun/scenic

Nope.

Spending hours and hours and hours on the cruise control bimbling
about in the UK, where the only excitement is likely to be provided
by the fuel stops, isn't my idea of fun.

Now if you'd said the Calais - Aachen - Flensburg - Berlin - Passau
- Munich - Freiburg - Aachen - Calais loop, then I'd be much more
interested.

That route, I'd actually have to think a bit and *drive*, not
just sit there at a stupidly low limit in fear of my licence.

But how long would a run like that take?
a 3 - 4 day trip is about as much as a family guy can get away with. Anything longer like the Rico is just out of the question

I did it over 10 years ago...I'd just finished uni and so it was probably in June and I was driving an old Mondeo, so no sat nav or cruise and not even a CD player!

One Friday afternoon my weekend plans fell apart so I thought, why not drive from LE to JOG?! I think I left Sheffield at about 8pm and got to LE around 1am, took a picture and then turned round and headed back north. As has been said, it's not the most exciting drive to do but once you get north of Edinburgh the scenery is pretty nice and north of Inverness the roads were very good.
Other than fuel I stopped once somewhere on the A30 for a power nap and then slept in Inverness on the way back down. From memory I think it took me about 14 hours to get from LE to JOG and I enjoyed doing it but it would probably cost a fair bit more to do it these days, with the current cost of fuel.
