Well just reading the Maxini101 posting and comments on times of driving this tour takes a more longer time frame ! - as most comment even if you love driving it gets tiring and some places you really must stay longer ... the planned tour takes in using AirBnb for long stays in different areas and re-visting areas we love (Alba) purely for the Wines and food.
As a note i have been a pistonhead member since before the site was called pistonheads but as i live/lived in various Asia Pacific countries and no longer (for just over 15 years) live in the Uk have been a real non active 'poster' on the forums except the odd word here or there ....... my forum antics have been more so focused to each makers ' specific ' forums
So after reading through the various 'roads' and 'write ups' on here (and pick out the info as everyone does) i thought i would post up a trip that i am starting with my wife ( well started as now in the Uk ) and that takes off into Europe from the 3rd June.
My idea is writing up the where's and other similar information so that anyone interest can follow and/or pick out things that are interesting ..... for example we are taking a Jadrolinija lines ferry from Bari Italy ti Dubrovnik Croatia but the info that would be useful for a car owner such as tips for arrival, where to stop etc to bypass foot passenger ticket queues (we already bought online) ... so the posts will have more such info for 'drivers' * a lot of the write up is also geared to international people looking to enjoy Europe for driving, wines, foods, unesco heritage sites and culture
As i am a massive car fan we are also, have arranged, tours of some of the obvious car makers in Europe - we just visited Mclaren this week which was exceptionally good, intact, outstanding especially if you love F1
The main arrangement of our trip was also taking the 'buy a reasonable budget car' idea from TopGear and doing the trip + which had to be an open 2 seater. An Audi TT 225bhp in very good condition was bought and that is the transport for the trip and which will be sold on return = beats any rental car nonsense, selection, issues of cross board use and most importantly cost
Tour route - any recommendations on other roads / items along way appreciated - though have pretty much many bases covered and if the route is too long camping is what we'll be doing
- Uk - Germany Stuttgart : Porsche / Mercedes Benz / Stuttgart centre
- Stuttgart / Constance / Davos and Stelvio pass to Garda
- Garda / Brescia ( Franciacorta wines) / Milli Miglia Brescia
- Modena Ferrari / Bologna Pagani
- Florence / Terriccio Tuscany wines
- Terriccio / Naples / Amalfi
- Amalfi / Alberobello / Bari
- Dubrovnik / Korcula / Split areas
- Mostar / sarajevo
- Budapest
- Vienna
- Munich / Audi visit
- Salzberg
- Eagles nest
- Garmisch / Fussen areas
- Zurich / St Gallen / Lucerne / Swiss Alps glacia / Alps passes
- Piedmont / Alba - wines and food
- Route Napoleon / Monaco / Nice / Cannes
The rest of the route will be decided 'on route' and most likely the South of France through to Barcelona then the Pyrenees driving roads through to Bordeaux ( st emilion ) and then down to San Sebastian, Bilbao and Santander = return via ferry which I have heard can be quite a rough crossing to Plymouth OR just heading back to the Uk through Loire etc - though my wife, as Japanese, would prefer seeing the South part of the Uk than France as we have driven through there before (loire etc)
If you have read this far then thanks and apologies for the long winded write up - slightly unusual Pistonheads Forum post but why not if it gives useful info
We will be posting up on our Facebook : noejapan and Noe Art and then also on website www.noe-japan.com
Recommendations on architecture on route appreciated and any other such pointers !!

Good morning Matt.
MTC with difficulty ! If you like F1 its exceptional ....... as we passed through they were just going through the full disassembling of the cars from last weeks (at time of writing) Monaco race ........
Mclaren only construct four cars per season and the carbon fibre tub takes 120 hours ....... they are constantly evolving the engineering on the cars during the season - we didn't ask the number of assembling and disassembling but its done for each race. Quite phenomenal. They also a few times a week do timed practice pitt stops and i think they said Mclaren hold the record at something like 2 seconds ......
Just typing this you realise how much was absorbed with out knowing !

When near Modena don't forget Maserati, Lamborghini, Ducati and the Panini collection.
These, plus when in Munich the BMW museum is well worth a look.as for the ferry home from Spain, it can be really rough at times if the weather is bad. Used it lots over the years in the lorry and 9 times out of 10 its ok, but when its rough, its really rough.
So check on the weather before you go

The rest of your route takes in some great places and drives, enjoy

If you can find a way to incorporate it Corsica is a must. Get up into the mountains, there are some of the most stunning roads I have ever seen. Good luck, I am a bit jealous. We're planning a month trip round Greece on the bike in September. Can't wait.
How are you getting into Greece, by road, or ferry from Italy maybe? We haven't made any decisions yet. We've booked the time off and know where we want to end up, that's about it so far lol. Options are a ferry from Venice to Igoumenitsa, Bari to Igoumenitsa or ride through Italy, Croatia, Bosnia (really short bit along the coast) Montonegro, Albania and finally into Greece. I know it might be a bit risky doing the long ride but it's all part of the adventure. And I really want to see Croatia.
Any one with experience or tips about my trip? I'd really appreciate them ta
Edited to add, the reason for the vagueness of our plans is Greek ferries seem to run where and whenever they feel like.

Croatia is lovely, drove it in the truck last year for the first time.
I'd really rate getting a ferry from Italy to igoumenitsa, and then nip across the e90 to Bizani, and then head south on the e951towards Patras. Done it twice now, and love it, bit challenging in places in the truck, but well worth it for some stunning scenery
Even the motorway route we then take from Patras to Athens is a beautiful run down.

Thanks for comments
Regards the other cars - we've been to Lamborghini 2 years ago though i know they have the Egoista on show from 2 weeks ago. We did the factory tour at the time the Aventador was just released and started production. Actually forgot about Maserati ! Also i've a balancing act between 'too much car' as the other half will tolerate so much but not too much !!
Comments on Ferry : seems the average comment am getting is the Bay of Biscayne is often very rough - this isn't booked yet and so can easily switch to a drive back .....
Massive hiking fans so the comments on the walk appreciated. Thankyou
The 'boot bag.com' bag just arrived to give a little extra space but its not quite as imagined. Can also picture that being a pretty filthy affair after a few hours of driving in the rain - i.e. filthy on the outside and when carrying it to/from car when parked
Weather is everything
The passes around Stelvio are all open but it was around 4c yesterday afternoon
The Stelvio pass and the SS 38's etc were covered in a heavy thick mist ........ basically you couldn't see anything for at least 40mins of driving
Reasonable shot before the mist obscured all views
Porsche museum was good on the way down IF YOU LIKE PORSCHE ...... its a museum after all
