Hi guys,

I plan on going to Wales next week to visit a good friend that lives near the Brecon Beacons. It will be the evening by the time I set off from Derbyshire so plan on going to Wales via the boring route (ie: M1, M42, M5, M50, A40, A465) which should be about 5hrs and 200-odd miles.

I cannot dismiss an opportunity to drive to Wales and not make an attempt to drive some of the best roads of the country so although I will be going to Wales via the boring route, I want to leave via some interesting routes. Now I understand that the Black Mountains are not too far away from my mate so will be checking it out (unless advised otherwise) but my cause for concern is whether to go up to the Evo Triangle before heading across to Derbyshire again, via the Cat & Fiddle. Does this make sense?!

A quick Google suggests that it would add about 150/200 miles onto the journey and another 3hrs. I am in two minds whether to make the detour for a 30-mile stretch of road. Hmm...thoughts and advice are welcome!

Thank you.

Take time to enjoy A4059 that's near Penderyn (passes the distillery) while there.
Leaving use A4069 (Top Gear Road with well-known hairpin)
-Llandovery - Llanwrtyd Wells - Beulah - Builth Well (A483) - A470 - Newbridge on Wye - turn North on to B4358 ... cont. passing Llanyre to Llandrindod.
North on A483 via Crossgates - Newtown - Welshpool
Turn on to A490 - Llanfyllin - Bala.
Exit Bala North on A4212 but lookout for right turn for Cerrigydrudion.
There is the one corner of the Evo triangle.
Enjoy. Then go home in one piece smile
