TfL are looking to reduce the speed limit from 70mph down to 50mph. If you use this road and are against it then let them know on the consultation. Or even if you don't use it but don't like the idea of the speed reduction.

A1 Barnet Bypass proposed reduction of the speed limit

Overview

Transport for London would like your views on a proposed reduction to the speed limit, from 70mph to 50mph, between the junctions of Rowley Lane and the junction of Courtland Avenue on the A1. A map of the area is shown below.

We want to ensure that everyone who uses this section of road can continue to do so in a safe and organised manner.

Why are we proposing this change?

The aim of reducing the speed limit on this busy stretch of road is to make journey times more reliable by helping traffic to flow more smoothly; and to help reduce collisions of the approach to Stirling Corner.

Have your say

Please give us your views by completing the online consultation form below.

To be honest, I've seen a fair share of accidents both north and southbound on that stretch of the A1 - particularly at Stirling Corner - so, as unpopular as this may be, it does make a degree of sense to extend the 50mph zone from the Totteridge junction up to the Borehamwood junction.

I used to commute along that road daily and still use it fairly regularly. I see a lot of cars giving it the beans after the scamera at the end of the current 50mph zone (going north) and I've seen a few drivers caught with their pants down going round the blind corner just before the traffic lights on Sterling Corner...

You don't think TfL will listen to you, do you?

with the section of M1 in the north and now this...it will take a long time but we will eventually have a 50mph NSL frown

I don't think a 50mph limit there would be a major issue. I Honestly don't think I've ever been much over that speed going in or out of London during normal hours. (7am-7pm) Possibly they should look at having managed speed limits though there?

However I would hope that along with this they would also look at improving the traffic lights and certain roundabouts nearby which seam to block the road at peak times.
