I'm planning a weekend jaunt covering some of the best roads the whole of Wales has to offer, and research is underway.

Are there are any cracking roads to the north/west of Betws-y-Coed & Blaenau Ffestiniog worth checking out?

Is the Llanberis Pass an 8.5/10 or above? If so then I'll include it, otherwise it's out.

If it's deemed worthy is it best to go all the way to Caernarfon then back again, or is there a better circular route?

And are there any other roads to the north/west of Betws that I've not heard about yet?

Thanks

There are decent routes around BYC, even the A5 and A470 to Blaneau F, but BYC gets horribly busy with daytrippers in summer.

Llanberis Pass is narrow and rock strewn, get stuck behind something and you've had it.

Bala is far better for a 'base camp'. A4212 out to Trawnsfyndd is a fantastic fast sweeper, although they've introduced a 30mph limit at the summit (think it's due to logging lorries exiting the forest).

There's obviously the B4407 off the A4212 which leads upto the Evo triangle and then the B4391 south-east out of Bala which climbs up onto a plateau and then descends spectacularly into the valley. It's a real test for any car and a petrolheads dream, just watch for the sheep standing in the road laugh
