Any thoughts on the complete closure of the A34 the next two weekends (first southbound, then northbound), and the 34-mile detour?

Why not just a contraflow over the bridge instead? I know that would cause some congestion but the detour surely will too.

Ok so I'm going to oxford at 5am on Friday the 15th from Newbury (I'm right near m4/a34) will this affect me??? I have to go to Oxford at this time because I have to go to vets to "pick up things" that people can't see.

Because they decided to close it for sts and giggles, or the work they are doing is easier and quicker with a closed road.

I suspect a lot of people with sat nav will use the B4494.
Might be worth thinking a little outside the box
As soon as you're on the A4 heading east take the first left and first left again.
Head for Welford and Great Shefford and join the A338 there.

Thanks for posting this, was about to start a new thread asking about these closures (saw the signs last week but never caught the details) as I'm heading up the A34 tomorrow morning (going to NEC for the Classic show).
