HEADS UP! New route to Santander - Discounts!
Discussion
As title, I've just had a mailshot that LD Lines have introduced a new route from Poole to Santander, with an introductory offer of £400 return for a car and two people (with cabin).
If anyone is thinking of a Spanish road trip (which I couldn't recommend enough) then book sharpish;

I got that too, looks good value. Must wait until 2015 before the next trip though, this one was great >> http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I'm sick of being ripped off by Brittany Ferries and their strike prone staff.

I had a look at that, how big is that ferry?
I couldn't find much about it, but I'd be interested to see what it's like across the Bay of Biscay when it's 'fresh' out there.
I'm not convinced thats the right picture if it takes "...capacity for 518 passengers, 120 freight vehicles and 195 cars..."I couldn't find much about it, but I'd be interested to see what it's like across the Bay of Biscay when it's 'fresh' out there.
If the picture is right then it might be a bit cramped on board.
The StNazaire-Gijon route could be an option as well combined with a Dover crossing.

Mmmm.I've done some scary and even stupid things in my life.
But never have I ever been as scared for my life than my first ever trip across the Bay of Biscay on a boat. Don't get me wrong, I'd do it again, only because out of all 4 return crossings I've ever made, the first was without doubt as bad as it gets, this side of capsizing or sinking. I didn't need the ferry staff and regular passengers to tell me this, it was very evident from my own conclusions. Let's just say I doubt they'd have set sail if they knew how rough it was going to end up. Smashed windows, gravity defying angles of sail and constant booming of waves reverberating down the length of the ships metal were the order of the night.
Not wishing to put people off but this can be a very, very naughty piece of sea!!
Having said that, I would (and did) go again. All I'd say is be prepared for the worse and hopefully it won't be as bad as my first encounter, though I'm still here to recount my experience.
Would love to go back over to Spain in my TVR someday as the roads are quite brilliant in many parts.

The combination of deeper water and open sea to the West can make conditions in Biscay a lot closer to those of the mid Atlantic than the Channel.

9 times out of 10 we were reduced to minimum operating crew required ( party time ) for safety!
good times!
