M1 or M6 (Southbound) on a friday night?

Hi

I'm going visiting my girlfriend in Loughborough on Friday night. I'll be coming from Manchester, setting off at 7pm.

Which way would you say is the best (traffic wise) way to go down? M1 or M6?
How bad should I expect it to be?

Can't say about either , but it's a fair old trek from most of Manchester to M1. I M6 is closer /easier ,how about M6 to J15 and A50 & A6 .A50 is DC all the way .So apart from a small bit of town in Stoke on Trent it's mostly DC /motorway all the way . Cant say if it's quicker though .

I'd also take the M6 to A50, and you won't need to touch the M1 if you go straight over at the end of the A50 onto the A6.

Post-7pm shouldn't be particularly busy anyway.

I'd avoid the M6 on a Friday night

I used to come back from Bristol to Manchester Friday nights and there was all ways huge tail backs on the southbound.

I'd go M62 > M1
