Hi,
I'm thinking of visiting my grandparents by ferry/car instead of the usual plane trip. They live in L'Estartit which is East of Girona on the coast.
Can anyone suggest a nice route to take?
Cheers
Head south out of Santandar on the N623 then east through Ona heading then through logronno and Jaca. I'm thinking of visiting my grandparents by ferry/car instead of the usual plane trip. They live in L'Estartit which is East of Girona on the coast.

If you really want a great route further east head across the Pyrenees on the N260. Beautiful road and scenery.
Then head down the E9 from ru de cerdanya to Barcelona
Great roads
Cheers Wozy, this is the kind of information I am after.
I just quickly put roughly what you said into google maps - does this look about right? http://goo.gl/maps/UEH4Z
I'm not actually going to Barcelona, the destination is not too far from the French border.

That's just about it. Only two things I'd slightly change.
1, Pull off the A12 about 5 miles short of Pamplona at Obanos and head east on firstly the NA-601 then the NA-234 to connect onto the A21. These are seriously great open roads with beautiful scenery, pretty villages and saves the Pamplona bypass.
In reference to the A21, the road follows the edge of a large lake between here and Jaca but last time I was there they were building a new road. If its possible try and use the old road, very twisty and pretty.
2, About 5 miles east of Jaca head up to Biescas on the N260A to start the N260 proper from there, its a slight detour but worth it, a fabulous beginning to the N260.
I have done the route you are taking quite a few times and the only time you should hit traffic is to the west of Logronno for the twenty miles into the town. (The lorries don't like the autoroute) Everywhere else should be pretty traffic free. (Just don't go in August). I have travelled the N260 as far as Ripoll and it is an amazing drive with some very beautiful scenery.
I haven't been able to go for a couple of years. I really hope you enjoy it as much as I do. All the best for a great trip. It will stay with you for years.
