I'm driving from London to Manchester this Sunday afternoon and was wondering if anyone could suggest any good driving roads to take?

Cheers

I used to drive up the M1 and then across the Pennines, through Bakewell and Buxton.

It was a long time ago (pre-Gatso) and I don't remember the road numbers.

Go on the AA website, depends how big a rush you are in, but I have always picked up the M1 near Hendon, drove north to pick up the M6 (north) near Birmingham, and then off straight after Knutsford services, turning right following the signs for Altrincham/Manchester......

or, you could keep on the M1, and cut across from Chesterfield, which is quite a nice scenic run.....

Watch for radar traps in Peak Forest though...

Up the M1 to the A50 at Nottingham Junction, along A50 to Uttoxxiter. At MacDonalds, turn right, heading past JCB and continue towards Buxton. Then Turn left, over the hills at the cat and fiddle, and just before you get to Maccelesfield turn right down a lane, follow your nose (or a map) and eventually you end up in Stockport.

There's a few camera's but once out on the Moors you can let rip.

New in UK. Finding it difficult to understand camera system. I mean, is there any way to go fast without getting penalty. Any dedicated threads to read about camera in this forum?
Last day I drove on M11. Waze did not alert camera on that road. I was doing above 70mph. Should I fear penalty?
On M1, M25 etc there was variable speed and I tried to stick to it mostly. But on rightmost lane many cars were flying past 100mph. How are they doing it? Any trick or are they too getting challana? I followed few cars for sometime above 100 mph. Should I worry for challan?
Please advise.
Tomorrow I'm going to Manchester from Bedford. Could anyone give info of less camera fast roads please.

Wow. I'd recommend just removing both number plates and then you'll have nothing to worry about and can drive as fast as you like.

There's only one fixed camera on the M11, right at the southbound end just after it turns to 50mph. It's one of the best-known, and most profitable speed cameras in the country. Other than that, it's a very fast, well-sighted motorway where you can easily cruise at pretty much any speed you desire.
Cameras are yellow, they're not too hard to miss. The vans or police radar guns are a bit harder to spot, but there's not that many of them really.
