Driving to Lake Como, Italy
Discussion
Hi Folks
I am travelling to Lake Como, from Warwick, for a photo-shoot at the end of the month and am looking at the most effective driving route to get there.
Looking to do it in 2 hits of about 450 miles each, the objective is get there with the least hassle and least amount of time on the road.

Doing the same trip as you a week today, starting within 10 miles of Warwick too.I am travelling to Lake Como, from Warwick, for a photo-shoot at the end of the month and am looking at the most effective driving route to get there.

Strasbourg makes for a good stop (469 miles from home or thereabouts) - we're making the second day interesting by using as many mountain passes as possible though

Sorry to thread hijack, but blaze_away (or anyone else), do you have a recommendation for somewhere to stay near lake Como? We are stopping off there for one night as part of our pre-Le Mans road trip, and ideally want somewhere nice, but not overly pricey.
There are a lot of options, really depends of what you fancy. If you're coming from the motorway and stay for just one night and then away again, staying in Como might be the best solution. Otherwise there are plenty of other places to stay, but will mean a little more driving.
Feel free to drop me a mail via PH if you want and I can give a look around.

We stayed here. It's out of Bellagio itself but being high up on the mountain the views are wonderful (well, they were on the one day we had without thick fog!). It looked like it had recently been rennovated as the rooms were modern with a contemporary influence. For a one-night stop, especially if it's a "romantic" one (well, as romantic as anything can be with ones missus) I'd recommend it. They had parking available too. Not sure if it costs anything more though.Landlord said:

That looks lovely, but unfortunately they appear to be booked up. Definitely not a romantic break - it's a bunch of blokes driving around Europe before Le Mans!I'll definitely keep it in mind if I decide to go back with the missus though!
Any other recommendations out there?
I've stayed here on the lake

Basic but clean, plus the staff couldn't be more friendly, Bruno the owner is a nice guy and will go out of his way for you plus the main recommendation is the restaurant they have over the road... fantastic!! we missed george Clooney at the restaurant by a day much to the other half's dismay.
