Hi all

New driver here: On the M25/ M20 yesterday I noticed a speed limit sign (One of the electronic ones that can display different numbers) on the central reservation - '50'
I tried to observe it but all other drivers seemed to do normal speeds - so I just sped up to normal.

Whats the deal with these signs? Normally variable speed limits/ Managed motorways are on signs OVER the lanes - is what I saw actually a speed limit at all or something else? Google yields nothing... Thanks

PS it seemed like a fixed sign on the crash barrier, not a temporary one

Ignore it for speed purposes, but keep a watch out just in case for slowing traffic. It is advisory thats all.

did it have a red ring around it ? No then it;s advisory - which will be why some of these who ignored it ignored it 'cos it;s advisory innit' , the rest are just ignorant ...

the observant will have noted it and be looking for the reason why , have greater anticipation of a problem.

Be aware though, that if the sign is ignored and an incident happens, that the police can use it against you to prove careless driving.
