surely they could have done one side at a time? or reduced the number of lanes?

AFAIK they are only doing one side, the eastbound between the M3 link and J5.

It was awful for water running across the carriageway. I once witnessed, too closely for comfort, a 993 aquaplane and spin a 1080 across all three lanes hitting nothing.
