Ruta 9, Salta to Jujuy

Argentina.
Great fun, even in a rented 1.2 Corsa sedan. Rather, especially in a rented 1.2 Corsa sedan.
Endless 2nd gear hairpins, sweeping 3rd gear turns, close to the edge a lot with little in the way of armco - total ascent must be close to 1000m, really focusing drive.
Run, donkey!
I'd post a pic but you can work google
FWIW RN 52 from Purmanarca to the salt flats is also fantastic, 2000m ascent on mixed tarmac / gravel topping out at 4000m with long sweeping 4th/5th gear sections on the way down.
Was a good holiday but I don't think that Corsa will ever be the same again (one less in the world I guess

I was passenger when a friend did something nasty to a rented Corsa in Argentina a few years ago by failing to spot the small sign warning of the storm drain across the road... I was in Córdoba in October, but we decided to upgrade to a Chevy Aveo instead of the Corsas we'd had previously. The Aveo is bigger and much more comfortable and definitely worthwhile if you have more than a couple of bags, or more than two people.Great fun, even in a rented 1.2 Corsa sedan. Anyone thinking of heading out there should give Flydrive Argentina a go. They'll do bespoke tours fitted around whatever you want to do. I'd say that I'm a happy customer with no connection, but it's run by my brother so I can't!
