Hey guys,

In a few days I need to be at Brighton by 6:30 but can only leave St Johns Wood at 4, meaning we would be travelling at rush hour. Travelling west from St Johns Wood, getting on the M25 and then the M23, under standard conditions do you think it's possible in 2hr/30min? I do the London/Brighton run alot but usually at night where it takes less than an hour and a half, traffic can change everything. Do you think it's doable or should I insist on leaving earlier?

2 1/2 hours sounds like sufficient time but there is also now roadworks on A23 after M23

ends and with 40mph av speed cameras and i don't know what it is like at peak times there.

I would try and allow more time if possiblesmile

Should be just enough time yep.

I did Canary Wharf (well, parked at the O2) to Brighton by car for the best part of 2yrs, three days a week... rarely took more than 2hrs, exiting the office at 4pm, and the car park by about 4.20pm depending on the tube. That was right into Brighton (Western Rd).

Then did Thomas More Sq/St. Katherine's Dock to Eastbourne, this time leaving the office just before 6pm, and that would take between 2 and 2.5hrs, depending on how busy south London was. Slightly quicker if I did the Blackwall queue and headed out on the M25.

From St. John's Wood... the only limiter will be how quickly you can negotiate your way out the the M25, rest should be fine. I assume you head east (and south a bit) to the M25?

Just to buck the trend, I'd say you won't have a hope in hell. I do gatwick to uxbridge every friday afternoon (leaving at 5.15pm) and it invariably takes two hours. I know that you'll be going the opposite direction, but the traffic on the other carraigeway (m25) looks just as bad as what I am sat in, if not worse!! I'd be insisting on leaving earlier if possible. Once you get on the m23 should be clear though, but the m40-m3 stretch of the m25, and sometimes further, is generally mayhem!

Slightly unrelated, but i do the other way on a monday morning, and leavign at 7am it takes me an hour, leaving at 7.20 it takes me near an hour and 20, and I know that time avoids the worst of the morning rush hour.

EDIT: Noticed the date, realise this is now hopeless advice!
