Epping Town Council offers free bags of salt to combat icy roads
FREE bags of grit are up for grabs from the town council as the cold weather approaches.
Epping Town Council has a limited supply of salt, in addition to existing salt bins, to hand out to residents.
Anybody wishing to use the grit in their community can collect a 20kg bag from Epping Hall in St John's Road over the next two weeks.
Town clerk Ash Tadjrishi said: “The salt is provided to clear those roads and pavements that are not normally salted, not private drives.
"We expect to receive enquiries across the town as requirements demand and where possible will allocate the bags evenly."
Residents wishing to take up the council's offer can register by calling 01992 579444 or emailing info@eppingtowncouncil.gov.uk with their name, address and telephone number and the area they are hoping to cover.
They will then be contacted with a collection date and guidance from Essex County Council on how best to use the salt.

(but they do need to save money as they've bought a new car for the mayor)

People will just use it on their driveways, its a nice idea but one that wont work. We have issues with grit bins where once we've filled them, people go straight out and fill their own buckets/bags etc to store in their garage for personal use.
We even have issues with people taking it to sell it in their corner shops!
